Alignments

orden impar

Rider's View

Commander's View

From the rider's point of view during a trot comb, the line leader's nose is to the rider's character and they should be the only horse ahead of the line leader.

From the commander's point of view, all of the riders are evenly spaced and riding side-by-side.

Key Factors of Comb

  1. Base comb alignment off of the line leader or your partner.

  2. Ensure you are straight and not veering.

  3. Constantly check alignment and adjust as needed.

  4. Always merge towards leader once reaching wall/marker.

  5. You should be ahead of everyone else on your own screen.

ALIGNMENT GAITS
Comb Variations

Comb alignment changes depending on the rider's speed.

Walk Comb

Lead's nose to your hands.

To perform comb alignment at a walk, each rider will have the line leader's nose to their character's hands.

Walk screen delay difference is a character spacing; therefore, the riders will place themselves a character spacing ahead.

Trot Comb

Lead's nose to your character.

To perform comb alignment at a trot, each rider will have the leader's nose to their character.

Trot screen delay difference is half a horse, therefore, the riders will place themselves half horse ahead of their line leader.

Canter Comb

Lead's nose to the back of your saddle.

To perform comb alignment at a canter, each rider will have the leader's nose to the back of their saddle.

Canter screen delay difference is half horse + character spacing; therefore, the riders will place themselves a half horse plus CS ahead of their line leader.

Extended Canter Comb

Lead's nose to your horse's tail.

To perform comb alignment at an extended canter, each rider will have the leader's nose to their horse's tail.

Extended canter screen delay difference is a horse length; therefore, the riders will place themselves a horse length ahead of their line leader.

STAGGERED ALIGNMENT

2.

Staggered Alignment

Al detenerse, el comandante especificará en qué formación quiere que se detenga la línea de jinetes.

Si no se llama a una formación específica, la línea de ciclistas simplemente detendrá NTT con el ciclista adelante.

Important Note

The following diagrams and descriptions are designed using NTT gaps, as the primary gap used in the PDM is NTT. However, if you are using different gaps, replace NTT with whichever gap your rider line uses.

The alignment will be whichever gap size the rider line was originally using before the split.

Rider's View

Commander's View

From the rider's point of view, they are Nose-to-Tail with the rider across and ahead of them.

From the commander's point of view, the riders are evenly spaced apart and not side-by-side.

Key Factors of Split Staggered

  1. Base alignment off of partner.

  2. Your partner is the rider ahead and across from you (AKA the person who was originally in front of you before the split).

  3. Ensure you are straight and not veering.

  4. Constantly check alignment and adjust as needed.

How to Split Staggered

When riding in a split staggered alignment, you will maintain your original gap size (NTT) with the rider who was in front of you before the split. After the split, they will now be the rider ahead and across from you. During split staggered, keep your nose to your partner's tail. If every rider in line performs staggered alignment properly, there will be equal spacings between each rider.

3.

Tier Alignment

Al detenerse, el comandante especificará en qué formación quiere que se detenga la línea de jinetes.

Si no se llama a una formación específica, la línea de ciclistas simplemente detendrá NTT con el ciclista adelante.

Rider's View

Commander's View

From the rider's point of view, they are maintaining comb alignment with the rider next to them while also maintaining full horse gaps with the rider in front of them.

From the commander's point of view, the two rider lines are evenly spaced apart, with sets of two riders next to each other and equal gaps between each set.

Key Factors of Tier

  1. Base alignment off of partner.

  2. Partner is the rider who is next to you.

  3. Odd's partner is the rider who was originally behind them.

  4. Evens's partner is the rider who was originally in front of them.

  5. Maintain comb alignment with partner.

  6. Maintain full horse gaps with the rider in front of you.

  7. Ensure you are straight and not veering.

  8. Constantly check alignment and adjust as needed.

How to Tier Alignment

During Tier Alignment, the riders have two important tasks: comb and gaps. Maintain comb alignment with your partner (partner's nose to your character) and also maintain full horse gaps with the rider directly in front of you.

Tier Alignment is often performed in a Tight Tier, which uses the two tight tier sand lines that border center line and mid line. For more information on the Tight Tier sand lines, visit Chapter 6:
